About

Peter Nabokov joined the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance faculty in 1996. An anthropologist and writer, Nabokov has conducted ethnographic and ethnohistorical research with Native American communities throughout North America. His research and teaching explore the vernacular architecture of South India as well as his American Indian studies in the Plains, California, and the Southwest.

• Recent courses include: Introduction to American Indian Studies, American Indian Arts in Performance, and Selected Topics in Cultural Studies: Indians in, by, and with Film.
• Nabokov is the author of numerous articles and reports and has published numerous books, including Indian Running, Native American Testimony: From Prophecy to the Present 1442 - 1992 (1987), Native American Architecture (1990); A Forest of Time: American Indian Ways of History (2002); How the World Moves: The Odyssey of an American Indian Family (2015); and The Origin Myth of Acoma Pueblo (2015)
• Current research includes a new book on Kent Mackenzie’s 1961 film about American Indians in Los Angeles, THE EXILES.
