You're Invited to "Presence as Praxis: Decoloniality in the Klauss Vianna Technique" on May 9th at 2pm in Kaufman 160.
This presentation explores how presence is practiced in the Klauss Vianna Technique (KVT) --a Brazilian contemporary dance and somatic education approach focused on improvisation. Cora will present an overview of the technique from the 1950s to the 1990s, centering on the questions that motivated the work. She argues that the decolonial aspect of KVT is both in its historical development and in the principles and methods it put forward. By working presence as an action through an ongoing and collaborative practice of sharpening and shifting modes of attention, KVT can offer strategies for collective questioning and dissent.
