Update for WACD Students

NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) INFORMATION FOR THE UCLA ARTS COMMUNITY


All WACD personnel are asked to avoid campus and Kaufman Hall until January 2021. This means that as of this writing, the building is locked, and all staff are observing the "safer at home" order. Rest assured, WACD staff will continue performing the vital functions of the department from our homes. We have prepared for this. You will be receiving communications about teaching your courses, taking your courses and all other departmental functions. If you have any doubts or concerns at all, please do contact us.

ACADEMIC UPDATES FOR STUDENTS:

  • Please be aware that systemwide regulations require that graduate students receive a B or better in order to earn a Satisfactory in a S/U. At UCLA, graduate students may receive course credit for C- and above grades unless otherwise prohibited by program requirements. So, the threshold for receiving course credit is higher for a graduate student taking a course S/U than is required to receive credit when taking under a letter grade.
  • Certain forms of financial aid require that you enroll for a minimum number of credits with letter grades. Please consult with Financial Aid about your particular situation.
  • The minimum GPA for a graduate degree is 3.0, so graduate students should carefully consider whether to use the S/U option depending on their individual situation, as S/U courses are not used in GPA calculations.

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT

Graduate students can check out long-term lending laptops, iPads and internet hotspots through the CLICC Lending Desk in Powell Library. UCLA is currently adding additional laptops and iPads to expand the resources available to students. If you need a device, please fill out this online service request form at the UCLA Library website. The form will prompt you to create an account, and once your request is processed, you will be given a specific day and time to pick up your device. Visit the UCLA Library website for additional information on remote services and other resources.

If you or another student develops flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, difficulty breathing), or believe you may have come into contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19, or are awaiting test results for the virus, please call the UCLA Arthur Ashe Center Infection Control Line at 310-206-6217. Callers will speak with a registered nurse who will determine the need for further testing and treatment.

The Ashe Center remains open, but students should always call before visiting.
